Chapter 23 — Healing Wounds

Chapter 23 — Healing Wounds
Deep in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains, away from the flashing cameras and frantic boardrooms, the Robertson Estate’s mountain cabin offered absolute serenity.
The crisp autumn air smelled of pine needles and woodsmoke. Toby, now running everywhere with boundless toddler energy, chased golden retriever puppies across the vibrant lawn while Finnley watched from the porch with a cup of black coffee.
Inside the cabin, Hailey and Ethan cooked dinner together. The kitchen was warm, filled with the rich aroma of garlic, rosemary, and slow-simmered tomato sauce.
Ethan stood behind Hailey at the stove, wrapping his arms around her waist as she stirred the pot. "You know, watching you out there with Toby and your dad... you look completely at peace."
Hailey leaned back against him, closing her eyes. "For a long time, I thought peace meant never having to fight again. Now I know peace means knowing you can win every battle, but choosing love instead."
Ethan turned her gently in his arms, looking down into her eyes with deep, unmasked devotion. "You’ve fought for everyone else, Hailey. It’s time someone fought for your happiness."

"You fight for me every single day, Ethan," she whispered, her hands resting softly on his chest.
He smiled, a tender, vulnerable expression that melted away the last vestiges of her guarded heart. In that quiet mountain cabin, surrounded by the quiet majesty of nature, their love solidified into something eternal—unshakable, patient, and profound.
