Chapter 7 - THE DELACROIX EMPIRE FALLS Federal agents raided six Delacroix Maritime offices before sunrise.

Federal agents raided six Delacroix Maritime offices before sunrise.
Charles’s arrest triggered investigations across three states.
Executives who had remained silent for years began cooperating.
Accounts were frozen.
Shell corporations were exposed.
The Delacroix name appeared across every major news network.
But the public story contained one image that spread faster than everything else.
Evelyn climbing from the swimming pool.
Someone had recorded the humiliation.
The video showed Victoire pushing her.
Camille mocking her.
Evelyn standing soaked beneath the lights.
Then came the sentence.
“You should all stop smiling.”
Millions watched it.
Most assumed it was the story of a waitress revealing she was secretly wealthy.
The truth was far more complicated.
Evelyn refused interviews.
She did not want revenge transformed into entertainment.
She wanted accountability.
Henri resigned.
Charles remained in custody.
Victoire publicly admitted her role in the pool incident and explained that although the confrontation had been engineered to force Evelyn’s security team onto the property, humiliation had still been her choice.
“I could have found another way,” she told investigators.
That admission surprised Evelyn.
Victoire did not excuse herself.
She accepted responsibility.
Weeks passed.
Henri’s health improved.
Madeleine entered therapy.
Camille provided evidence concerning her mother’s death.
And Evelyn returned to the villa one final time.
The pool had been drained.
She stood beside the empty basin.
Victoire approached.
“I hated you before I met you.”
Evelyn looked at her.
“That seems healthy.”
Victoire almost smiled.
“I thought you were coming to steal my father.”
“I didn’t even want him.”
“I know that now.”
Silence stretched between them.
Then Victoire handed Evelyn something.
The brass waitress badge.
EVELYN.
Victoire had found it beside the pool.
Evelyn stared at it.
“Keep it,” Victoire said.
“Why?”
“So you remember the night you destroyed us.”
Evelyn looked at her.
“No.”
She placed the badge in Victoire’s hand.
May you like
“The truth destroyed what needed destroying.”
Then she walked away.
