Chapter 9 - THE TRAP The council meeting had been moved that night.

Not by Jackson.
By Chad.
He had claimed the downstairs library was unavailable because of air-conditioning maintenance.
It wasn't.
The system records proved it.
Chad needed Jackson upstairs.
He needed the game wing temporarily quiet.
He needed time.
His plan was brilliant in its simplicity.
Plant the ledger.
Photograph it.
Create fake financial records.
Move cash through a company account.
Disable children's emergency alerts.
Then let Jackson discover everything.
If Jackson hid the evidence, Chad would send the anonymous complaint and accuse him of destroying proof.
If Jackson disclosed it, the fake evidence would threaten the refinancing.
Either way, Chad's North Club option survived.
But Chad had made one mistake.
He had not accounted for a four-year-old boy looking for a blue toy car.
Leo had entered the room early.
And he had seen Chad placing something beneath the poker table.
A loose page had fallen.
Leo picked it up.

Chad panicked.
That was when the financial conspiracy became something much darker.
