Chapter 14 - What Noah Was Wearing The bracelet looked worthless.

Brown leather.

Cheap brass clasp.

Claire had given it to Noah the morning before she disappeared.

Ruiz opened it.

Inside was the proxy token.

Noah stared at it.

“She put it on me.”

“Because nobody would search a child,” I said.

He shook his head.

“No.”

He looked at me.

“Because she knew I would keep it safe.”

The token log was devastating.

Every fraudulent signature had been authenticated from a backup device connected to Elliot's office.

Claire's original token had never been used.

The seventy-million-dollar transaction collapsed.

So did the corporate takeover.

Elliot's entire operation began falling apart.

But there was still one question.

Where were Claire's ashes?

Vanessa finally agreed to cooperate.

In exchange, prosecutors would consider her assistance.

She told them the ashes were hidden inside our father's mausoleum.

Behind a loose marble panel.

I went there alone.

The urn was small.

Too small for the woman my sister had been.

I stood there holding it.

For thirteen months, I had hated Claire for leaving.

Now I realized she had never left.

She had been taken.

She had fought.

She had planned.

She had tried to protect Noah until the very end.

Ruiz arrived with another file.

“There's more.”

“What?”

“A camera was recovered from the lake house.”

My stomach tightened.

“The final hour?”

She nodded.

“It survived.”

May you like

I didn't want to watch it.

But I knew I had to.
