Chapter 10 - The Moretti Legacy

Five years later.
The summer sun shone brightly over the rolling green hills of the new Moretti estate in Long Island.
The sprawling oceanfront property was a haven of peace, far removed from the cold, ruthless politics of Manhattan. Children’s laughter echoed across the manicured lawns, mixing with the gentle crash of the waves against the shore below.
On the grand stone terrace overlooking the sea, Dominic Moretti sat at a large teak table, enjoying a quiet morning coffee.
At thirteen years old, Ethan was tall, handsome, and carried himself with the quiet, confident grace of his father. He was sitting on the lawn below, patiently coaching eight-year-old Lily on how to ride a two-wheeled bicycle.
"Keep your feet moving, Lily!" Ethan called out, running alongside her with his hands lightly hovering over the handlebars. "I'm right here! I won't let you fall!"
"I'm flying, Ethan! Look at me!" Lily squealed with pure joy, her dark curls whipping in the wind as she pedaled furiously down the paved garden path.
Sitting across from Dominic at the terrace table was Sophia.
Over the past five years, she had stepped down from her role as housekeeper to become the Executive Director of the Elena Moretti Foundation—a multi-million-dollar charitable organization founded by Dominic that built pediatric allergy research centers and safe houses for widowed mothers across the country.
She wore an elegant cream blazer, her hair pinned up neatly, her face radiating a deep, serene happiness.
"She’s getting so fast," Sophia remarked, watching her daughter ride down the path toward the rose garden.
"She takes after her mother," Dominic said softly, setting his coffee cup down. "Relentless. Unstoppable."
Sophia smiled, looking at Dominic with eyes filled with warmth and deep affection. "Thank you, Dominic. For everything. For giving us a life we never could have dreamed of."
Dominic reached across the table, placing his large hand over hers.
"No, Sophia," Dominic said, his voice filled with sincere emotion. "Thank you. You and Lily didn't just save Ethan’s life that night. You saved mine. You brought light back into a house that had been cold for far too long."
Down on the lawn, Lily brought her bicycle to a smooth stop beside the terrace steps. She jumped off, let the bike fall onto the soft grass, and ran up the stone stairs, her cheeks flushed pink, her laughter ringing through the air.
She ran straight to Dominic, jumping into his lap. Dominic caught her easily, wrapping his arms around her and lifting her high into the air as she giggled.
"Dad!" Lily cried out happily. "Did you see how fast I went?!"
Dominic froze for a brief fraction of a second, the word echoing in his chest with profound, overwhelming sweetness. Over the last two years, without any prompting, Lily had begun calling him "Dad," just as Ethan had embraced her as his real sister.
Dominic lowered her down, pressing a gentle kiss to her forehead.
"I saw it, sweetheart," Dominic said, his steel-grey eyes soft with absolute love. "You were the fastest thing on the coast."
Ethan ran up the terrace steps, breathless and grinning, dropping onto the bench beside them. Sophia reached out, handing both children fresh glasses of lemonade.
Dominic looked around the table—at his brave, healthy son, at the brilliant woman who managed his foundation, and at the fierce, beautiful little girl who had once slapped a plate of poisoned cake onto a marble floor to save a boy she barely knew.
The dark past was gone. The shadows had been destroyed.
Dominic Moretti raised his glass of iced tea toward his family, the sun beaming down on them, warm and eternal.
"To family," Dominic said softly. "The ones who protect us, and the ones who save us."
May you like
"To family," they all echoed together.
And as the waves rolled gently against the shore, the Moretti family sat together in the warmth of the sun, safe, whole, and home at last.
