Chapter 4 - THE WOMAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH“YOU KNEW YOU WERE BEING RECORDED.”

The father returned upstairs holding the recovered footage on a drive. His fiancée stood near the front entrance, but two security guards now blocked her path.
Her expression changed completely.
The frightened woman disappeared.
In her place stood someone cold.
“You still don’t understand what you saw,” she said.
“I watched you push my son.”
“Yes,” she answered quietly. “But you still don’t know why.”
The dark-haired woman covered the boy’s ears, but he pulled her hands away.
The red-haired woman looked toward him.
“I was trying to scare him away from that staircase.”
“By pushing him?”
“Because he found something.”
She pointed toward the decorative post where the child had been playing before the incident. The father approached it and noticed a tiny seam in the wood. Inside was a memory card wrapped in plastic.
The technician inserted it into a laptop.
A video appeared.
The father’s late wife filled the screen.
She looked exhausted and terrified.
“If you’re watching this,” she said, “then someone inside this house finally found what I hid.”
The father stopped breathing.
His late wife continued.
“The cameras weren’t installed to protect us. Someone has been watching this family for years.”
Then she spoke a name.
Not the fiancée’s.

The father turned slowly toward the security technician standing beside him.
But the technician was already reaching inside his jacket.
