Chapter 9 - The Queen of Diamonds

|

Sadi stepped onto the red carpet, the flashbulbs illuminating the dark street like lightning.

She wore a custom, floor-length gown of midnight-blue velvet that hugged her curves perfectly before cascading into a sweeping train. But it wasn't the dress that commanded the attention of the paparazzi and the elite crowd; it was the jewelry.

Resting against her collarbone was a staggering necklace of flawless, blue-white diamonds, easily worth more than the entire hotel building. She looked radiant, powerful, and entirely untouchable.

Roman placed a protective hand on the small of her back, his icy eyes scanning the crowd with lethal precision. He did not smile for the cameras, but the way he looked at Sadi told the entire city exactly who was in charge.

Trevor watched from the alley, a sickening wave of regret washing over him.

This was the woman he had abandoned. He had traded this woman for a superficial blonde who left him the second his bank account froze. He had thrown away a queen for a pawn.

Desperation overtook his common sense. Trevor bolted from the alley, pushing his way through the crowd of onlookers and paparazzi.

“Sadi!” Trevor screamed, his voice raw and frantic. “Sadi, please! I need to talk to you!”

He broke through the front line of the crowd, lunging toward the red carpet.

He didn't make it two steps.

A massive force slammed into his chest with the impact of a freight train. Trevor was thrown backward, crashing into the metal barricade. He gasped for air, his vision blurring.

When his eyes finally focused, Arthur was standing over him, his face a terrifying mask of calm professionalism.

“You were warned, Mr. Vance,” Arthur said, his voice barely a whisper, yet loud enough to freeze the blood in Trevor’s veins.

Sadi stopped on the red carpet. She turned her head, looking past the flashing cameras. Her eyes locked onto Trevor, who was crumpled against the barricade, his wrinkled suit covered in street dirt.

Roman stopped beside her, his expression instantly darkening into pure murder.

“Bring him inside,” Roman ordered quietly to his security detail. “Through the service elevator. Put him in the private viewing room.”
