Chapter 14 - THE CONFRONTATION Jackson met Chad in a downtown law office.
No mansion.
No family guards.
No shadows.
Just two cousins sitting across from each other.
Chad looked exhausted.
"You destroyed thirty years of family structure."
Jackson's voice was calm.
"You threatened my son."
"I never intended to hit him."
"You raised a bat."
"I wanted him scared."
"That's the point."
Chad looked away.
"I was protecting the family."
"No."
Jackson leaned forward.
"You were protecting your position."
Chad's jaw tightened.
"You were handing the company to outsiders."
"I was refinancing it."
"You were destroying what our fathers built."
Jackson stared at him.
"Then why did you plant evidence?"
Silence.
"Why did you disable the emergency system?"
Still silence.
Jackson's voice became quieter.
"Why did you need my four-year-old son unable to call for help?"
Chad finally whispered:
"I needed thirty minutes."
Jackson felt something inside him go cold.
"Thirty minutes."
"That's all."
"You needed thirty minutes without my son being able to reach me."
Chad didn't answer.
Jackson stood.
"I wanted to know whether you understood what you did."
Chad looked up.
"I understand the plan."
