Chapter 19 - THE LETTER A year later, a letter arrived.
It was from Chad.
Jackson recognized the handwriting immediately.
He left it unopened on his desk for three days.
Then a week.
He didn't hate Chad anymore.
That surprised him.
Hatred required energy.
Jackson had a son to raise.
A company to rebuild.
A life to live.
One evening, after Leo went to bed, Jackson finally took the envelope from the drawer.
He turned it over.
His thumb rested against the seal.
He could open it.
He could throw it away.
He could burn it.
Instead, he placed it back.
Not forgiveness.
Not punishment.
Not yet.
Some doors did not need to be opened simply because someone had finally knocked.
Jackson turned off the office light.
Then he heard a small voice from upstairs.
"Daddy?"
He smiled.
"I'm coming."
