Chapter 6 - THE FAMILY WANTS IT BURNED The Bellandi family held its own emergency meeting.
Vincent arrived first.
Then two cousins.
Then Angelo Bellandi, seventy-two years old and still treated by many relatives as the family's unofficial patriarch.
Vincent didn't sit.
"Burn the ledger."
Jackson stared at him.
"You don't even know what's in it."
"I know what it will do."
Claire leaned forward.
"Destroying evidence would make the situation much worse."
Vincent glared at her.
"You people don't understand family."
Claire's expression didn't change.
"That's exactly what I'm afraid of."
Angelo looked at Jackson.
"Handle Chad internally."
Jackson's voice dropped.
"He threatened my son."
"He didn't strike him."
"He raised a bat over a four-year-old."
Nobody answered.
Jackson looked around the room.
"This is why whoever planted that ledger thought they could win."
He picked up the evidence case.
"They knew we'd want to make it disappear."
Vincent's face went pale.
For the first time, Jackson wondered whether the greatest weapon against the Bellandis wasn't money.
