Chapter 8 - The Cleansing of Room 204

One week later.
The maternity ward on the second floor of St. Jude’s Women’s Pavilion was quiet, bathed in soft afternoon light.
The old wooden door marked ROOM 204 had been removed.
A team of specialized architectural craftsmen hired by Ethan was installing a hand-carved mahogany archway, dedicated as the Lily Vance Pediatric Sanctuary.
Clara stood in the doorway, wearing an elegant navy silk wrap dress, holding Ethan’s hand.
Inside the newly renovated room, fresh flowers filled the sills, and modern neonatal monitoring equipment was being unloaded for underprivileged mothers who could not afford private healthcare.
Dr. Samuel Mercer, the newly appointed chief of obstetrics, stepped forward with deep, unyielding reverence:
“Mrs. Vance. The foundation’s charter has been registered with the state health department. Room 204 will provide free, state-of-the-art maternal care to five hundred women every year in perpetuity.”
Clara touched the commemorative bronze plaque mounted beside the archway:
ROOM 204 > Where the Light Was Stolen, and Where Truth Reclaimed the Throne. > Dedicated by Clara & Ethan Vance.

“Thank you, Dr. Mercer,” Clara smiled through tears.
“No mother will ever walk out of this room alone again.”
