Chapter 10 - THE DAWN OF THE TRUTH

The masked man roared in pure agony, the pistol skittering uselessly across the blood-slicked marble floor. The father lunged desperately for the weapon, his fingers wrapping around the cold grip just as the intruder swung a heavy fist. The father rolled, raised the black barrel, and fired twice. The silenced shots were barely a whisper, but the man collapsed instantly.

Silence slammed back into the ruined mansion, broken only by their ragged, desperate breathing. The father scrambled up, pulling the dark-haired woman and his weeping son into a desperate embrace. The hacked smart speakers were finally dead. The brutal nightmare in the kitchen was completely over, but the cold dread remained. Who was the voice on the intercom?

Sirens wailed wildly in the distance, tearing through the quiet suburban night. The mysterious text messages had done much more than guide them; they had silently broadcasted an SOS to the authorities. The father approached the bleeding intruder, slowly ripping off the tactical mask. He gasped in utter shock. It was the lead investigator from the local police department.

The very man who had supposedly arrested the technician and handled the basement files was lying dead on their floor. The deep conspiracy unraveled in a terrifying flash. The corrupt investigator had used the tech to install the cameras, manipulated the fiancée, and orchestrated the raid to secure the real prize: whatever the dead mother had hidden away.

The boy tugged gently on his father’s torn shirt. The old phone was glowing brightly one last time. The father looked down at the cracked screen, hot tears blurring his vision as he read the final message. I PROMISED I WOULD ALWAYS PROTECT HIM. I LOVE YOU BOTH. The screen faded to black, and this time, it stayed dark.
