Chapter 7 - THE BLUEPRINT OF BETRAYAL

They slipped behind the heavy oak bookshelf just as a massive silhouette eclipsed the bedroom doorway. The hidden servant’s corridor was suffocatingly narrow, smelling of dust and long-forgotten family secrets. Through the slatted air vent, the father watched the intruder step into his son’s room. The man wore a tactical mask, holding a suppressed pistol with terrifying, professional ease.

This wasn't the clumsy tech guy from the basement. This was a trained phantom, a relentless hunter moving with lethal grace. The intruder stopped at the unmade bed, running a gloved hand over the warm sheets. He tilted his head, listening intently to the absolute silence of the house. The father held his breath until his lungs screamed for oxygen.

The dark-haired woman tugged his sleeve, urging him further down the pitch-black passageway. They navigated the steep, narrow steps by touch alone, descending into the very belly of the old mansion. The boy clung to her neck, burying his face deep in her shoulder. He didn't make a single sound, already a traumatized veteran of his own home’s horrors.

As they reached the ground floor behind the kitchen walls, the mother’s phone buzzed once more. The father snatched it from his son’s hands, desperate to stop the glowing screen from betraying their exact position. He stared at the new text in absolute horror. THE RED-HAIRED WITCH LIED. SHE LET HIM IN. THE BASEMENT IS A DEADLY TRAP.

The father’s blood ran completely cold. The fiancée hadn't just been a silent accomplice; she had maliciously orchestrated the entire breach. The security tech was nothing but a convenient scapegoat, a pawn sacrificed to successfully lower their guard. Whoever was texting them from his dead wife’s phone knew every intricate detail of the deadly game being played tonight.
