Rescuing The Lost Boy

Rescuing The Lost Boy

The small boy sobbed hysterically as he clung tightly to his father's neck.
Julian fell to his knees on the dust covered marble floor holding Toby.
Tears swept clean tracks down Julian's dusty cheeks as he kissed his son.
The room fell into absolute silence except for the child's ragged crying breathing.
Julian: You are safe now my brave little boy.
Toby: The lady locked me in the dark box daddy.
Julian: What lady are you talking about right now Toby?
Toby: Mommy put me inside and turned off the light switch.
A terrible chill ran down Julian's spine as those words echoed clearly.
The wealthy guests gathered around gasped together in deep collective shock.
Julian slowly lifted his head and looked directly toward his glamorous wife.
Evelyn backed away two steps while her face turned completely paper white.
Her hands trembled violently as she clutched her expensive designer evening purse.
Evelyn: He is confused and hallucinating from heat exhaustion Julian!
Julian: He just said your name very clearly Evelyn!
Evelyn: A child's word cannot be trusted in a panic!
Elena: I saw madam locking that access door earlier today!
The maid stepped forward boldly and pointed her finger directly at Evelyn.
Elena: I heard the child screaming from behind the wall panel hours ago!
Elena: When I asked madam for the key she threatened to fire me!
Evelyn: You lying worthless maid how dare you accuse me!
Julian stood up slowly while holding his trembling son close in his left arm.
His jaw was clenched tight with a terrifying rage he had never felt.
He looked at the woman he had loved for over ten long years.
The dark truth was finally revealing itself in front of the entire town.
Julian: Why would you ever do something so evil to our child?
Evelyn: I was trying to save our family estate business Julian!
Julian: What does an estate business have to do with this boy?
Evelyn: You were going to leave me and take my trust fund!
Evelyn stumbled back against the heavy wooden display table in complete desperation.
