Paula Kent, a former records assistant, agreed to testify.
She said Denise had brought her our original storage authorization.
Then a blank donation form.
“Use the signatures,” Denise had allegedly told her.
“Make the file complete.”
Paula did it.
She copied our signatures.
Then the records were altered again.
The embryo was marked as lost.
The transfer disappeared into paperwork.
Denise's defense argued that Paula was unreliable.
Seven years had passed.
People remembered things differently.
Shared accounts existed.
Procedures had been chaotic.
But forensic document analysis was brutal.
Our signatures contained identical digital characteristics.
The donation form had been created after the embryo transfer.
An email from Denise read:
Mercer transfer completed. Carter inventory reconciled as loss. No patient notice needed unless they ask.
That sentence became the centerpiece of the prosecution.
Denise denied intending to steal a child.
She claimed she had been covering an operational error.
