Chapter 24 - DENISE HALL'S TRIAL Denise Hall went to trial.
The prosecution showed the jury the documents.
The original authorization.
The falsified donation form.
The digital signatures.
The transfer timestamp.
The altered inventory.
The emails.
Paula testified.
Then Denise took the stand.
“I believed the Carters had verbally consented.”
“Where is the record of that?”
“There wasn't one.”
“Then how did you know?”
“I believed the database.”
“But you knew the consent form was missing.”
Denise looked down.
“Yes.”
That answer was devastating.
The jury convicted her of falsifying reproductive medical records and fraudulent alteration of consent documentation.
They acquitted her of the broader conspiracy charge.
There wasn't enough evidence to prove that senior management had planned everything from the beginning.
The distinction was important.
The clinic's system had failed catastrophically.
But not every person inside it was a criminal.
Denise's conviction did not change Sophie's parentage.
That battle was already over.
