Victor wanted it canceled.
Detective Brooks refused.
“She wants something there.”
Lily understood.
“The ledger.”
Dana nodded.
“And you.”
Serena believed Lily possessed the only surviving audio recording from the first attack.
The gala became a trap.
Hundreds attended.
Politicians.
Business leaders.
Journalists.
Serena arrived in red.
People gasped.
She walked directly toward Lily.
“You should have taken the money.”
Lily stared back.
“You should have left Ethan alone.”
Serena smiled.
Then every screen in the ballroom turned black.
Videos appeared.
Victor's crimes.
Some genuine.
Some manipulated.
Guests screamed.
Cameras turned toward him.
Serena whispered:
“Now they see what you really are.”
Victor did something nobody expected.
He walked onto the stage.
And admitted the real footage was real.
Serena's smile disappeared.
She had expected denial.
Instead Victor surrendered the weapon she held against him.
Then Detective Brooks moved.
Serena ran.
The ballroom lights went out.
