Chapter 4 - The Dead Woman in WisconsinIsabella Blackwood was alive.

Investigators found her forty-eight hours later in a private psychiatric facility outside Milwaukee.
She had been admitted under another name.
Her guardian authorization carried Serena’s signature.
Victor stood outside her hospital room for twenty minutes before entering.
Lily went first.
Isabella looked thin.
Fragile.
Terrified.
“Did Serena send you?”
“No.”
“Where's my baby?”
Lily froze.
“What baby?”
Isabella started crying.
“My son.”
Lily felt the room tilt beneath her.
“Ethan?”
Isabella looked at her.
“You know him?”
That was how Victor learned the impossible truth.
Isabella had been pregnant when she disappeared.
Serena had staged the boating accident.
Isabella woke inside a private clinic and was told Victor wanted her declared mentally unstable.
Months later she gave birth.
Serena told her the baby died.
But Ethan had not died.
He had been taken.
Victor had been given an elaborate story involving a surrogate arrangement created from embryos frozen before Isabella's supposed death.
He believed it because powerful people had signed the documents.
Doctors.
Lawyers.
Judges.
People he trusted.
Isabella looked through the hospital glass at Ethan sleeping in another room.
“He has my eyes.”
Victor couldn't speak.
Then Isabella said something that changed everything again.
“Serena wasn't working alone.”
Victor looked at her.
“Who?”
May you like
Isabella's answer was almost a whisper.
“Someone in your family.”
