Chapter 17 - Sacrifice

"Did you really think I’d come alone?" David asked softly, without flinching.

From the shadows of a crane fifty feet above the pier, Marcus raised his sniper rifle, taking breath control despite the agony in his injured shoulder. A single shot rang out, knocking the lead mercenary off his feet before he could raise his rifle.

Chaos erupted on the dock. David dived behind a steel freight container as bullets chewed through the pavement.

Sarah moved through the darkness like an assassin, taking down the perimeter guards one by one with suppressed fire. She cleared the gangway and vaulted onto the deck of the yacht, her tactical boots slapping against the teak wood.

Eleanor turned to flee toward the bridge, but Sarah intercepted her, cutting off the escape path to the wheelhouse.

"Get out of my way, you pathetic girl," Eleanor hissed, drawing a small, pearl-handled pistol from her coat pocket.

Sarah didn't hesitate. She closed the distance in a flash, grabbing Eleanor’s wrist and twisting it until the bones popped. The small pistol clattered to the deck and slid off the edge, disappearing into the black ocean water below.

Eleanor screamed in pain, falling to her knees, clutching her shattered wrist. "You won't kill me. You're just a schoolteacher. You don't have the stomach for it!"

Sarah looked down at the woman who had terrorized her family, destroyed lives, and murdered innocent men to maintain a corporate empire.

"You're right," Sarah said calmly. "I'm a teacher. And class is officially over."
