Chapter 18 - Breaking Point

Sarah grabbed Eleanor by the hair, hauling her up and dragging her to the edge of the yacht’s deck just as David and Marcus climbed aboard.

Below on the pier, the flashing red and blue lights of dozens of federal vehicles and NYPD cruisers cut through the heavy rain. Sirens wailed from every direction, surrounding the harbor in a tight, impenetrable perimeter.

Special Agent Miller lay handcuffed on the hood of a police cruiser below, pointing up at the yacht as federal prosecutors and legitimate FBI tactical squads swarmed the docks.

"It's over, Eleanor," David said, stepping up beside Sarah.

Eleanor looked down at the armada of law enforcement waiting for her on the dock. The press helicopters were already circling overhead, their powerful spotlights pinning her against the white hull of her own vessel. There were no bribes left to pay, no corrupt politicians left to call, and no mercenaries left to hire.

Her empire was dust.

"You destroyed everything," Eleanor whispered, her voice cracking as the reality of absolute defeat finally crushed her spirit.

"No," Sarah said, leaning in close so only Eleanor could hear her over the roar of the sirens. "You destroyed yourself. We just made sure the world was watching."
