Chapter 20 - Phoenix Rising

Six months later. Boston, Massachusetts.

The newly constructed Arthur Vance Community Center stood bright and proud in the heart of South Boston, built entirely through the liquidated assets of the former Sterling Foundation.

Children played in the sunny courtyard while local families gathered for the opening ceremony. A bronze plaque near the entrance read: In Memory of Arthur Vance — Who Stood Against the Dark so Others Could Walk in the Light.

Marcus stood near the podium wearing a crisp suit, holding his new badge as Chief of Investigations for the State Attorney’s Office. Beside him, David was surrounded by local high school students, demonstrating a new open-source educational software suite he had designed to help low-income schools.

Sarah stood at the back of the auditorium, watching her family with a serene, quiet pride. She wore simple clothes now, her ponytail loose, her eyes warm and peaceful.

A young girl walked up to her, holding a history textbook. "Mrs. Vance? Are you going to be teaching our AP History class again next semester?"

Sarah smiled, kneeling down to look the student in the eye.

"Yes," Sarah replied, taking a deep breath of the cool spring air. "I certainly am. We have a lot of history to talk about."

She looked across the room at David, who caught her eye and smiled back—a look of pure, unadulterated peace. The Phoenix Protocol was complete. From the ashes of their darkest war, they had built a sanctuary.
