Chapter 8 - Into the Hive

The torrential rain over Manhattan transformed the towering glass monolith of Sterling Tower into a shimmering blue phantom against the midnight sky. Down on 5th Avenue, a convoy of sleek black Maybachs slid up to the valet, disgorging high-society elite draped in diamonds, silk, and tailored tuxedos.
Inside a panel truck parked two blocks away, the air hummed with telemetry equipment. Marcus adjusted his ear-piece with his good left hand, his face pale against the neon glow of four surveillance monitors. "You've got three minutes before the shift change at the service entrance," he barked softly into his comms. "Security protocols on Floor 40 are running on a fifteen-second delay while they sync the gala’s live press feed."
Sarah stepped out of the shadow of an alleyway, smooth velvet clinging to her frame. Underneath the tailored evening dress was a hidden kevlar weave and a lightweight frequency jammer strapped to her inner thigh. beside her, David tightened his bow tie, his eyes fixed on the revolving glass doors. His leather folio concealed a specialized hardware bridge capable of bypassing biometric hand-scanners.
"Remember," David whispered, taking Sarah's hand for a brief, electric second. "We aren't just stealing data. We are stripping her bare."
"She took Arthur. She tried to take Leo," Sarah said, her voice dropping into a chilling, quiet register. "Let's go."

They glided through the side entrance reserved for high-yield investors. Sarah adopted the posture of bored, old-money nobility, sliding her arm through David’s. The biometric gate at the elevator bank flashed green as David subtly pressed the spoofing rig against the sensor housing, mirroring the digital signature of Eleanor's chief financial officer.
The elevator doors closed silently. As the car accelerated toward the subterranean server vaults, the floor indicator flicked downward into negative numbers. Outside, thunder rattled the steel structure. Inside, the battle for the Sterling empire had begun.
