Claire arrived as Ethan stood across the street.
Watching Lily through the fence.
She walked directly toward him.
“You’re violating the protective order.”
Ethan smiled.
“I wanted to see my niece.”
“You never cared about her.”
His smile disappeared.
“You don’t understand what you’re doing.”
“Then explain.”
“If Dad falls, everyone falls.”
“Good.”
Ethan stepped closer.
“You think Marcus Vance is helping you because he’s noble?”
Claire remained still.
Ethan whispered:
“Ask him who hired him twenty-eight years ago to bury Jonathan Vale’s wrongful-death case.”
Claire’s heartbeat stopped.
Ethan walked away.
