Chapter 6 - THE PRESS CONFERENCE At nine the next morning, Ethan stood inside Bennett Tower.
Cameras surrounded him.
“Our family experienced an unfortunate accident.”
Claire watched from the rear of the atrium.
Ethan continued.
“My sister has struggled emotionally for years.”
Marcus whispered:
“There it is.”
“What?”
“The narrative.”
Ethan smiled sadly for reporters.
“We hope Claire gets the help she needs.”
Claire walked forward.
Flashbulbs exploded.
Ethan froze.
Richard whispered something to security.
Marcus raised a court order.
“Touch my client and you’ll be explaining yourself to a judge.”
Claire reached the podium.
Ethan hissed:
“Don’t do this.”
She looked at him.
“You already did.”
Marcus activated the screen.
The ballroom footage played.
The entire atrium went silent.
They watched Ethan plant the watch.
Then swing the sign.
Then Lily fall.
Ethan’s face drained of color.
Claire faced the cameras.
“My daughter is eight years old.”
Her voice remained steady.
“She was framed by a grown man because he believed his money would make his lie stronger than her truth.”
