He knelt.

“Clearly not enough.”
Lily giggled.
Marcus smiled.
“You taught me that truth can hurt and still set people free.”
He opened the ring box.
“I don’t want to rescue you.”
Claire’s expression softened.
“I know better.”
He continued.
“I want to stand beside you.”
Lily whispered loudly:
“Say yes, Mommy.”
