Chapter 4 - The Voice in the DarkI didn't sleep that night.

The city glittered beneath my penthouse windows, but every light suddenly looked like an interrogation lamp.
“What happened three years ago?”
The caller laughed softly.
“You really don't remember?”
“I remember everything.”
“No.”
His voice dropped.
“You remember what you chose to remember.”
The line went dead.
I immediately called Arthur.
He answered on the first ring.
“Tell me you heard that.”
“I did.”
Arthur was silent.
“Who has access to the old Vanguard files?”
“Almost nobody.”
“Almost?”
“There was one person.”
“Who?”
Arthur hesitated.
“Ethan Cole.”
The name struck me like ice water.
Ethan.
My former chief architect.
The man who had helped build Vanguard from nothing.
The man who disappeared after the acquisition.
“Where is he?”
“We don't know.”
I looked toward Noah's bedroom.
He was sleeping peacefully.
I couldn't afford to be afraid.
Not anymore.
I opened an encrypted file hidden inside my private system.
A photograph appeared.
Ethan Cole.
Beside him stood another man.
May you like
My blood ran cold.
Daniel.
