Julian wanted to follow.
Eleanor stopped him.
“This began because you made a decision without trusting me.”
Julian lowered his weapon.
She continued.
“So trust me now.”
Every instinct in him screamed against it.
But he nodded.
“I trust you.”
Those three words meant more than any apology.
Eleanor walked toward Elias.
She carried the ledger.
He carried Leo.
“Mom!”
“I’m here, sweetheart.”
Elias raised a weapon.
“Give me the drive.”
Eleanor held it out.
Then dropped it into the river.
Elias stared in horror.
“What have you done?”
“Chosen my son.”
Leo kicked backward.
