Emily Carter as legal parent under the jurisdiction’s assisted-reproduction framework because the embryo was created from her genetic material and transferred without her relinquishment consent.
Caroline Mercer’s historical status as birth mother and legal mother during her life was not erased from Sophie’s identity records.
The amended vital record process preserved prior birth information while adding parentage pursuant to court order.
Legal mechanics were awkward.
