Chapter 18 - Shadows Across the Sea
A heavy silence fell over the diner table. The warm morning sun suddenly felt cold.
"They think I still have the technology inside me," Leo said flatly.
"They know you burned out the core," Marcus corrected. "But they believe the blueprints for the bio-synthetic architecture are still encoded in your long-term memory. To them, you aren't just a threat—you're the ultimate blueprint."
Sarah stood up, sliding out of the booth and putting herself between Marcus and Leo. "We paid our dues. The kid spent his whole life as a lab experiment. He’s done."
"I agree," Marcus said calmly, pushing the briefcase across the table. "Which is why I suggest you take these documents, cross the border, and disappear deeper than anyone has ever gone before."
Leo reached out and touched the smooth leather of the briefcase. He looked at Sarah, then back at the agent. "What if I don't want to run anymore?"
Marcus raised an eyebrow. "Excuse me?"
Leo stood up beside Sarah, his gaze firm and unyielding—the same cold determination that had survived the night market, the sewer tunnels, and the Sterling tower. "If they come looking for me, they won't find a scared kid. And they won't find a weapon."
