Chapter 19 - The Highway Ahead

Ten minutes later, the black sedan was gone, disappearing down the coastal highway.
Sarah and Leo stood by their newly acquired classic muscle car parked behind the diner. Sarah threw the brown briefcase into the trunk, slamming it shut.
"You realize he was right about one thing," Sarah said, leaning against the car door as she looked at Leo. "The moment we take these names, the old Sarah and the old Leo die."
"Good," Leo said, leaning on the passenger door. "The old Leo was built to be destroyed. I'd rather build something new."
Sarah tossed him the car keys. "You want to drive?"
Leo caught the keys in mid-air, a rare laugh escaping his lips. "I'm eight, Sarah."

"Right," Sarah smirked, taking the keys back and getting into the driver's seat. "Just checking if your brain was completely back to normal."
The engine roared to life with a heavy, satisfying rumble. Sarah slammed the car into gear, kicking up gravel as they pulled out onto the open Pacific Coast Highway. The blue ocean stretched endless on their left, while the mountain roads wound up into the wild green timber ahead.
