Lily had been five.
Too young for every detail.
But she remembered the argument.
Rachel.
Vanessa.
Diane.
All in Diane's kitchen.
Rachel demanded the truth be told.
Vanessa panicked.
After Rachel left, Vanessa called Richard.
Then wrote an address on paper.
Rachel was staying at a hotel that night before driving home.
Richard received the location.
Marcus confirmed he was redirected there.
“Did Richard meet Rachel?”
“No.”
“Then who did?”
Marcus hesitated.
“His daughter.”
Richard had a daughter?
I had never heard of one.

Thirty-six now.
Automotive engineer at the time.
That detail chilled me.
“Did she work on Rachel’s car?”
“I don't know.”
“Where is she?”
“Gone.”
“Dead?”
“No.”
Missing from public life for four years.
Another hidden person.
We traced Claire through professional records.
She had resigned shortly after Dad died.
Then vanished from regular employment.
Lily knew the name.
“Claire helped Grandpa.”
“What?”
“Grandpa Robert.”
Dad had hired Richard's own daughter to investigate him.
That changed everything.
Maybe Claire wasn't helping Richard.
Maybe she was exposing him.
A hidden file in Dad's storage confirmed it.
Claire Sloan — cooperating witness.
She told Dad Richard had manipulated family trusts for years.
She also inspected Rachel’s car after the crash.
Her conclusion:
Brake damage suspicious.
But she couldn't prove when it occurred.
Then a note:
CLAIRE BELIEVES HER FATHER ORDERED MARCUS ONLY TO WATCH. SOMEONE ELSE INTERVENED.

Why would Diane hurt Rachel?

Lily shook her head violently.
“Grandma Diane loved me.”
Love doesn't eliminate fear.

Then Lily finally agreed to open Dad’s box.

And a tiny memory card.
