Grace refused treatment until Eleanor was examined first.
That alone told Adrienne everything she needed to know.
Grace Bennett had been with the Cross family since Adrienne’s company was operating out of a rented warehouse.
She had cooked for them.
Protected them.
Sat beside Eleanor through chemotherapy.
She had never asked Adrienne for anything except flexible hours so she could raise her son Marcus.
Yet Vanessa claimed Grace had suddenly attacked a sick woman?
Adrienne didn’t believe it.
At the hospital, doctors diagnosed Grace with serious second-degree burns.
Eleanor had escaped major injury because Grace had thrown herself between her and the soup.
Adrienne stood outside the burn unit when twelve-year-old Marcus arrived.
“Where’s my mom?”
“She’s safe.”
His shoulders relaxed.
Then he looked Adrienne directly in the eyes.
“I saw it.”
Adrienne stopped.
“Saw what?”
“Ms. Vanessa.”
His voice dropped.
“She threw the soup.”

“And I think the cameras saw it too.”
