Chapter 27 - THE EMPTY BEDROOM One year after the soup attack, Adrienne entered Eleanor’s old recovery room.

The medical bed was gone.

The machines were gone.

Sunlight filled the room.

She remembered Grace screaming.

Vanessa lying.

Her mother trembling.

She had considered demolishing the room.

Instead, she transformed it.

Bookshelves.

Comfortable chairs.

A piano.

A fireplace.

A family room.

Eleanor entered behind her.

“You kept the curtains.”

Adrienne touched the fabric.

One faint tomato stain remained.

“I wanted to remember.”

Eleanor smiled.

“Remember what?”

May you like

Adrienne looked around.

“That surviving something doesn’t mean pretending it never happened.”
