Chapter 29 - THE LETTER Three weeks before Christmas, an envelope arrived.
No return address.
Inside was a photograph.
Arthur Sterling.
Richard Vance.
Daniel Hollis.
And another man Adrienne had never seen.
The photograph had been taken fifteen years earlier.
On the back were seven handwritten words:
ARTHUR STERLING WAS NEVER THE MAN IN CHARGE.
Adrienne’s blood went cold.
Below the sentence was a symbol.
A black circle crossed by three silver lines.
She had seen it before.
Inside one of the shell-company documents.
Adrienne called her security chief.
“Find out who sent this.”
He examined the photograph.
Then looked at her.
“Ms. Cross…”
“What?”
“I know the man standing beside Sterling.”
Adrienne waited.
“He disappeared twelve years ago.”
“Who was he?”
The security chief hesitated.
“Your father’s business partner.”
Adrienne stopped breathing.
Her father had supposedly died from a heart attack seventeen years earlier.
She looked down at the photograph again.
