Chapter 4 - THE PRENUP Vanessa arrived at nine.
She wore Adrienne’s favorite black dress.
She brought champagne.
She thought she had won.
Adrienne waited inside the study.
On the desk lay their prenuptial agreement.
Vanessa smiled.
“So you finally realized Grace is manipulating your mother?”
Adrienne pushed a document across the desk.
“What is this?”
Vanessa glanced down.
Her smile weakened.
The document transferred Eleanor’s Hill Country property into a holding company.
Sterling Heritage Holdings.
Vanessa’s company.
“I can explain.”
“Please do.”
“Your mother wanted estate planning.”
“My mother says you threatened her.”
“She’s confused.”
Adrienne placed the flash drive beside the contract.
Vanessa stared at it.
“What’s that?”
“2:14 PM.”
The blood disappeared from Vanessa’s face.
Adrienne leaned forward.
“There is no wedding.”
Vanessa stood.
“You’re making a mistake.”
“No.”
Adrienne pressed a button.
The study doors opened.
