Chapter 11 - The Shot Volkov fired.

The bullet struck Adrian in the chest.
He slammed backward into the steel railing.
Pain exploded through his body.
His heart went into chaos.
The monitor screamed.
Adrian dropped to one knee.
Volkov raised his gun.
“Die!”
Then the ICD activated.
A violent electrical shock tore through Adrian's chest.
His body jerked.
His heart restarted.
Adrian opened his eyes.
Volkov froze.
“You're supposed to be dead.”
Adrian stood.
“My heart isn't yours to kill anymore.”
He attacked.
The revolver fell.
Volkov stumbled against the railing.
Adrian grabbed him.
“You threatened my daughter.”
Volkov stared into his eyes.
“This city belongs to men like us.”
Adrian's voice was cold.
“Not anymore.”
The confrontation ended beneath the broken skylight as dawn began to illuminate the harbor.
Volkov was gone.
His empire was finished.
Adrian looked toward the rising sun.
“It’s over.”

But he knew something else.
For the first time in his life, he was going home.
