Chapter 30 - Never Hiding Again That evening, the family sat together on the porch.

The sun sank slowly behind the water.

The sky turned gold.

Lily fell asleep against Sarah.

Adrian leaned back in his chair.

His hand rested over the scar on his chest.

The device beneath it was quiet.

His heart beat steadily.

Sarah rested her head against his shoulder.

“You know,” she whispered, “she used to draw you without a face.”

“I remember.”

“She thought you were the wind.”

Adrian looked at Lily.

“What does she think now?”

Sarah smiled.

“She thinks you're home.”

Adrian closed his eyes.

For three years, he had believed disappearing was the ultimate act of love.

He had been wrong.

Sometimes love wasn't leaving.

Sometimes love was staying.

Facing the fear.

Taking responsibility.

And allowing the people you loved to see you exactly as you were.

Not a king.

Not a criminal.

Not a ghost.

Just a father.

A husband.

A man who had finally survived his own past.

Adrian kissed Lily's forehead.

“I’m never hiding again.”

Sarah smiled.

“Promise?”

“Promise.”

The ocean wind moved softly through the trees.

And somewhere inside the house, Lily's latest drawing rested on the refrigerator.

Three figures.

One family.

One home.

And a father with a face.

But beneath the picture, unnoticed by everyone, the old envelope from the previous night remained in a drawer.

The photograph was gone.

Burned.

Or so Adrian thought.

Because miles away, in a dark room overlooking Manhattan, a stranger opened a file.

Inside was another photograph.

This one showed Adrian, Sarah, and Lily standing together in Maine.

The stranger smiled.

Then he whispered:

“Let's see how long the happy ending lasts.”

And outside his window, New York glittered beneath the night.

The past was quiet.

For now.

But some stories don't end when the family finally finds peace.
