Chapter 28 - The Man Without a Face Years earlier, Lily's drawings had terrified Adrian.

A faceless father.
A man she couldn't see.
A ghost.
Now those drawings were stacked in a box in the attic.
Sarah discovered them one afternoon.
She opened the oldest.
The blank oval stared back at her.
Then she opened the newest.
A smiling father stood beside a little girl and a woman beneath a bright sun.
Sarah carried it downstairs.
Adrian was sitting on the porch.
She placed both pictures beside him.
“Look.”
He studied them.
“Three years of waiting.”
Sarah sat beside him.
“And one year of being here.”
Adrian looked toward the yard.
Lily was running with the dog.
“I wish I could go back.”
Sarah shook her head.
“Don't.”
“Why?”
“Because then you wouldn't be here.”
Adrian understood.
