Chapter 5 - The Golden Cage The armored SUV escaped through the alley under a storm of gunfire.

Vincent drove like a man trying to outrun death itself.
Adrian collapsed against the rear seat.
His face was gray.
Sarah grabbed him.
“What's wrong?”
“My heart.”
She searched the glove compartment.
He managed to whisper, “Nitroglycerin.”
She found the bottle.
Ten terrifying seconds passed.
Then Adrian gasped.
His heartbeat stabilized.
Lily clung to Sarah.
“Daddy sick?”
Adrian forced a smile.
“Just tired.”
Forty minutes later, they entered the Moretti estate in Westchester County.
Stone walls.
Iron gates.
Security cameras.
Armed guards.
A mansion overlooking a private lake.
Lily stared through the window.
“Is this a castle?”
Sarah looked at Adrian.
“A very expensive prison.”
That night, Sarah confronted him.
“You brought us into your war.”
“I brought you somewhere safe.”
“You cannot hide us forever.”
Adrian stared at the monitors.
“I can end it.”
Sarah stepped closer.
“Then do it.”
He looked at her.
“Volkov won't stop.”
“Then make him stop.”
Adrian's eyes hardened.
For years, he had believed survival was enough.
Now he had a reason to want something more.
His daughter.
His wife.
A future.
“I’ll end it,” he whispered.
Sarah searched his face.
May you like
“How?”
“I burn the throne.”
