Chapter 4 - THE MAN AT THE FRONT DOOR Three days later, the past arrived.

The mansion doors shook beneath a furious pounding.
Harper froze in the library.
Then she heard the voice.
"Open this damn door!"
Derek.
Her body reacted before her mind could.
Her hands went numb.
Her lungs stopped working.
She was twenty-nine years old again.
Trapped in an apartment.
Listening to Derek's boots in the hallway.
Gabriel appeared at the bottom of the staircase.
He looked almost bored.
Derek entered after security reluctantly opened the outer gate.
"I know she's here."
Gabriel adjusted his cuff.
"Good morning, Detective."
"Don't play games."
"You brought a firearm onto private property."
Derek's hand moved toward his holster.
Instantly, Gabriel's security team raised their weapons.
The foyer became a frozen battlefield.
Then Harper appeared at the top of the staircase.
Derek looked up.
"There you are."
His voice softened dangerously.
"Come home."
Harper gripped the railing.
"No."
His face changed.
"You belong to me."
Gabriel looked at him.
"No woman belongs to you."
Derek drew his weapon.
Everything happened at once.
Gabriel crossed the foyer in a blur.
The gun hit the marble.
Derek was pinned against the wall.
"You pointed a weapon at her," Gabriel said.
Derek struggled.
"I'm a police officer!"
May you like
Gabriel leaned closer.
"That is exactly why you're going to prison."
