Chapter 5 - THE FILE THAT SHOULD HAVE DESTROYED HIM Derek had believed his badge made him untouchable.
He was wrong.
Inside the basement holding room, Gabriel placed a thick folder on the table.
Derek stared at it.
Bank transfers.
Bribes.
Missing seizure funds.
Photographs.
Witness statements.
Years of evidence.
"You've been stealing from your own department," Gabriel said.
Derek's face went white.
"You can't prove any of this."
"I don't have to."
Gabriel opened another folder.
"Federal prosecutors already can."
Derek stepped backward.
Then he understood.
This wasn't about revenge.
Gabriel had been dismantling Derek's entire life.
His badge.
His money.
His connections.
His protection.
Everything.
"Why?" Derek whispered.
"Because you confused power with ownership."
Derek laughed bitterly.
"She's just a maid."
Gabriel's eyes hardened.
"No."
He closed the folder.
"She's the woman you should never have hurt."
