She lived in a small apartment.
No mansion.
No assistants.
No family office.
No authority.
For the first time, she had to live without controlling anyone.
Her first letter to Clara was short.
She admitted what she had done.
No excuses.
No explanations.
Just responsibility.
Clara read it.
Then asked:
“Can I answer?”
Ethan hesitated.
Isabel didn't tell her what to do.
That was the point.
Clara wrote:
Why was Mom so frightening to you?
Victoria replied:
Because she could say no to me without needing my permission. I confused disagreement with losing power.
Clara read it twice.
Then asked to meet her.
The meeting lasted thirty-five minutes.
Victoria didn't reach for her.
Clara didn't hug her.
“I don't want to call you Grandma yet.”
Victoria nodded.
“Okay.”
