Chapter 10 - THE FINAL ECHO

Daniel slumped back against the premium leather seat, his hands shaking violently as he dropped the empty rifle onto the bloodstained floorboards. They had actually made it out alive, against absolutely impossible odds, escaping the vicious clutches of a man who controlled half the world. He reached into the backseat, gently taking his terrified daughter from a trembling, exhausted Elena.
Vanessa kept her eyes completely glued to the dark asphalt road, her knuckles stark white on the steering wheel as she pushed the engine. "We need to vanish completely," she stated coldly, her voice devoid of any lingering emotion. "Charles will use every satellite, every corrupt agency, and every mercenary on his immense payroll to hunt us down by morning."
Daniel pulled the stolen hard drive from his torn jacket pocket, the heavy metallic rectangle feeling exactly like a ticking bomb in his palm. This tiny device contained the entire blueprint of his father’s illegal empire, the exact evidence Rebecca had sacrificed her precious life to secure. "We don't run," Daniel whispered, his eyes hardening with a dangerous, unfamiliar resolve.
Elena suddenly reached out, urgently plugging the hard drive into the encrypted dashboard console of the high-tech tactical escape vehicle. "There is one file Rebecca explicitly told me to show you, but only if we actually survived the house," she said, her voice shaking anew. The dashboard screen flickered to life, rapidly bypassing layers of intense security to reveal video.

The live satellite feed displayed a highly secure medical facility, located on a remote, entirely unnamed island halfway across the globe. Daniel’s breath caught violently in his throat as the high-definition camera zoomed in on a solitary patient standing perfectly still by a reinforced window. The woman turned toward the lens, her familiar face scarred but resolute. Rebecca was alive.
Daniel touched the glowing dashboard screen, hot tears finally breaking through his hardened, bloodied facade as he stared at the wife he thought he lost. This entire nightmare wasn't a tragedy of betrayal; it was an incredibly complex rescue mission that Rebecca had meticulously orchestrated herself. He looked up at the dark horizon, his fear entirely replaced by deadly purpose.
