Chapter 1 - The Sound That Changed Everything The sound of the slap reached Olivia before she understood what had happened.

The sound of the slap reached Olivia before she understood what had happened.
For one frozen second, the four-year-old girl simply stood there.
Her cheek burned.
Her eyes filled with tears.
And across the elegant living room, nobody moved.
The house belonged to Eleanor, Olivia's grandmother—a woman who believed discipline was the foundation of respect and softness was something that had to be beaten out of children before the world could do it for them.
Olivia's nine-year-old cousin stood in front of her, his hand slowly dropping to his side.
He looked frightened.
Not because he had hurt her.
Because he was suddenly unsure whether he had done what he was supposed to do.
Eleanor sat perfectly straight on the sofa.
“Teach her who is older,” she said.
Olivia touched her cheek.
Her lips trembled.
Then she looked toward the front door.
There was only one person she wanted.
“Grandpa…”
The word came out like a prayer.
Eleanor sighed.
“Don't make a scene.”
But Olivia had already learned something more important than whatever lesson Eleanor thought she was teaching.
She knew who made her feel safe.
The front door suddenly opened.
Stallone stepped inside.
He had expected laughter.
He had expected Olivia to run toward him with her little red toy car.
Instead, he saw her standing alone.
He saw the red mark on her cheek.
He saw the tears.
And something inside him went completely still.
Olivia ran.
“Grandpa!”
He dropped to one knee and caught her before she reached him.
She wrapped both arms around his neck.
He lifted her.

“What happened?”
No one answered.
The silence was enough.
Eleanor finally spoke.
“You spoil her.”
Stallone looked at her.
“Put her down.”
“No.”
One word.
Quiet.
Absolute.
Eleanor stood.
“This is exactly why she is becoming weak.”
Stallone held Olivia closer.
“Correction and cruelty aren't the same thing.”
Eleanor's expression hardened.
“You think you know everything.”
“No,” he said.
Then he looked at Olivia.
“I just know what I saw.”
The room went silent again.
And for the first time, Eleanor realized this wasn't going to end with everyone quietly accepting her version of events.
May you like
Not tonight.
Not anymore.
