Chapter 15 - The Barbecue Years passed.

The family wasn't perfect.
But it was healthier.
At a summer barbecue, a younger child accidentally knocked over a drink.
The boy froze.
He looked around, waiting for someone to get angry.
Before anyone could react, Olivia handed him a towel.
“It's okay.”
“You're not mad?”
She shook her head.
“Things can be cleaned.”
Stallone stood across the yard.
He remembered another child.
Another room.
Another frightened face.
But this time, the story was different.
Olivia wasn't repeating the lesson she had received.
She was creating a new one.
Pain had not made her cruel.
Fear had not made her silent.
She had chosen something better.
Stallone felt something warm rise in his chest.
Not pride because she had survived.
Pride because she had refused to become what had hurt her.
Eleanor watched from the porch.
She heard Olivia's words.
“Things can be cleaned.”
For a moment, Eleanor closed her eyes.
She understood the metaphor.
Some things could not be erased.
But they could be cleaned.
Repaired.
May you like
Handled differently.
And sometimes, that was enough.
