Chapter 9 - The Letter A month later, Stallone received a handwritten letter from Eleanor.

He opened it at the kitchen table.
The letter wasn't long.
Eleanor wrote about Olivia.
About the slap.
About the moment she saw fear in her granddaughter's eyes.
She wrote about her own childhood.
But she didn't use it as an excuse.
Instead, she wrote:
She couldn't change what Olivia remembered.
But she wanted to become someone Olivia remembered differently.
Stallone folded the letter carefully.
He didn't call Eleanor.
He didn't tell her she was forgiven.
He simply placed the letter inside a drawer.
That evening, Olivia climbed beside him on the couch.
“Grandpa?”
“Yeah?”
“Why did you come that day?”
“I was supposed to visit you.”
“But why that day?”
He smiled.
“Because I wanted to see you.”
She thought about it.
“Would you have come if I didn't call?”
The question hit him harder than he expected.
“I hope so.”
“Hope?”
“I never want you to think you have to be hurt before someone comes.”
Olivia leaned against him.
“I know.”
“How?”
She shrugged.
“Because you always come.”
Stallone looked away.
That sentence would stay with him for the rest of his life.
Not because he thought he had saved her.
May you like
Because he realized she had saved something in him too.
The part that still believed showing up mattered.
