Chapter 4 - The Woman Behind the Armor That afternoon, Eleanor called Stallone.

“I think we should talk.”
“About Olivia?”
“About what happened.”
He waited.
“You embarrassed me.”
Stallone looked out the window.
“And Olivia?”
A long silence.
“I know she was hurt.”
It was the first time Eleanor had said it without qualification.
Stallone lowered his voice.
“Why did you do it?”
“I wanted her to stop acting helpless.”
“Why?”
Eleanor didn't answer.
“Why do you think fear makes someone weak?”
The silence stretched.
Then something changed in her voice.
“When I was a child, nobody protected me.”
Stallone leaned back.
Eleanor continued.
“I learned not to need anyone.”
“And now you want everyone else to learn the same lesson.”
“I thought it would make them strong.”
“Did it?”
Another silence.
“No.”
For the first time, Eleanor sounded tired.
Not angry.
Not powerful.
Just tired.
“I never wanted Olivia to be afraid of me,” she whispered.
“Then you need to make sure she knows that.”
“I don't know how.”
“Start with the truth.”
“What truth?”
“That you were wrong.”
The call ended.
There was no apology.
No dramatic reconciliation.
But something had cracked.
May you like
Eleanor had spent decades building armor around herself.
Now, for the first time, she had admitted that underneath it was a frightened little girl who had once believed nobody was coming.
