Chapter 10 - The Family Dinner Three months later, Eleanor hosted the first large family dinner.

Everyone arrived nervous.

Nobody knew where to sit.

Nobody knew what to say.

The house looked exactly the same.

But it didn't feel the same.

Olivia walked through the door holding Eleanor's hand.

Stallone watched carefully.

Not because he didn't trust Eleanor.

Because trust was still being rebuilt.

Eleanor noticed his expression.

“You're worried.”

“I am.”

“About me?”

“About everyone.”

Eleanor looked around the room.

The cousin sat quietly at the table.

Olivia showed him a drawing.

He smiled.

Eleanor watched them.

“What happens now?” she asked.

Stallone answered:

“Now we pay attention.”

She nodded.

No one argued.

No one tried to prove who was right.

The family had finally learned something simple.

A healthy family wasn't one where nobody made mistakes.

It was one where people could admit them without being destroyed for doing so.

The dinner wasn't perfect.

Someone made an awkward joke.

Someone changed the subject too quickly.

Eleanor nearly snapped twice.

But both times she stopped herself.

And for the first time in years, nobody left the table angry.

That night, Olivia fell asleep on Eleanor's shoulder.

Eleanor sat completely still.

She didn't move.

She didn't want to wake her.

Stallone watched from across the room.

He realized something.

May you like

Sometimes the greatest evidence of change was not what someone said.

It was what they no longer did.
