Chapter 6 - The First Test Healing didn't happen overnight.

Eleanor still made mistakes.

She still had sharp opinions.

She still wanted things done her way.

But now she noticed herself.

One afternoon, Olivia spilled juice across the kitchen table.

Eleanor immediately opened her mouth.

The old words were already forming.

Then she stopped.

She grabbed a towel.

“It's okay.”

Olivia stared at her.

Eleanor stared back.

Neither moved.

Finally, Olivia smiled.

That small smile stayed with Eleanor all evening.

Because she realized something terrifying.

Being patient required more strength than being angry.

Anger was easy.

It protected you.

It gave you distance.

Patience required you to stay.

To listen.

To admit you didn't know everything.

That night, Eleanor sat alone in her bedroom.

She opened an old box.

Inside were photographs from her childhood.

She found one of herself at six years old.

She barely recognized the girl.

Serious eyes.

Tight mouth.

Hands folded carefully in her lap.

No smile.

Eleanor whispered:

“What happened to you?”

The answer came slowly.

Nothing had happened all at once.

It had been years of learning that vulnerability was dangerous.

Years of believing that if she became hard enough, nobody could hurt her.

And then she had spent decades teaching Olivia the same lesson.

Eleanor put the photograph down.

For the first time, she cried.

Not because she wanted sympathy.

May you like

Because she finally understood where the cycle had begun.

And she knew that understanding it was not the same as ending it.
