Chapter 7 - The Protection Order The court granted an emergency protection order.

David's mother was prohibited from approaching David, Leah, their home, or the hospital.
For the first time in weeks, Leah slept peacefully.
The nursery slowly became warm again.
Tiny clothes filled the drawers.
A stuffed rabbit sat beside the crib.
One afternoon, Leah placed David's hand against her belly.
The baby kicked.
David laughed.
"She's strong."
Leah smiled.
"Like her mother."
For several minutes, they forgot everything else.
But later that night, David opened the security monitor.
A figure stood across the street.
Too far away to identify.
He zoomed in.
Nothing.
The figure disappeared.
Then his phone received a message from an unknown number.
YOU CAN MOVE HOUSES.
A second message appeared.
YOU CAN'T MOVE BLOOD.
David stared at the screen.
He immediately called Detective Miller.
Miller listened.
Then he said:
"David, I need you to understand something."
"What?"
"This may not be about Leah."
David looked toward the nursery.
"What do you mean?"
May you like
Miller's voice became quieter.
"It may be about the baby."
